    1. 01

      Check your covers

Open the zip and check that the old filling comes out. Keep covers that are sound, with working seams and zips. For fixed upholstery or loose feather and fibre fillings, contact us before choosing a foam replacement.

    2. 02

      Measure each cushion

Remove the filling and measure the empty cover between its sewn seams. Record width, front-to-back and the sewn border depth. A 4-inch border uses 5-inch foam with a full Dacron wrap; see the measuring guide below. Keep width and front-to-back measurements seam-to-seam, without an extra allowance.

    3. 03

      Choose your shape and comfort

Enter your measurements in the cushion calculator. Compare foam hardness and intended use in the foam guide: density alone does not tell you how firm it feels. Choose a seating grade for seat cushions; back cushions may need a softer feel.

    4. 04

      Choose your finishing touches

If offered for your chosen foam, Dacron rounds the cushion, helps fill out creases and protects the foam. Stockinette helps the insert slide into the cover. For our 4-inch border example, order 5-inch foam and choose Full Wrap under Dacron: 4-inch foam would look flat and wrinkled even with Dacron. Check your wrapping option and price before adding to your basket.

      4″ foam + full Dacron

Flat seat, loose fabric and creases.

      5″ foam + full Dacron

Plump seat and gently rounded edges.

The 5″ is the foam core; Dacron is additional. It rounds the edges, helps fill creases and protects the foam—not a substitute for foam thickness. Illustrative image for our 4″ boxed seat example, not a universal sizing rule.

      Review and order

Use quantity for identical cushions. Add cushions with different measurements or foam grades separately. Check each shape, measurement, unit, extra and quantity in your basket before entering your delivery details and paying.

    6. 06

      Fit your new inserts

Unzip the cover fully. Gently compress the foam and guide it through the opening, easing the corners into place. Smooth the cover around the insert and close the zip gently. Never force a tight zip or pull hard on seams; contact us if the fit is not right.

Measure the cover. Restore the comfort.

How to measure your cushion covers

A tape measure, an empty cover and a few careful checks. Start with the sewn seams—not the shape of your tired filling.

Keep the tape straight and measure between the sewn seams.
    1. 01

      Empty the cover

Unzip your cushion and remove the filling. Lay the empty cover on a flat surface. Smooth out creases gently, without pulling or stretching the fabric. Measure the cover, not the sunken old foam.

    2. 02

      Measure the width

Measure across the seat panel from one sewn side seam to the opposite seam. Keep the tape straight. Do not include loose piping, tabs or seam allowances.

    3. 03

      Measure front to back

Measure from the front sewn seam to the back sewn seam. For a tapered cushion, also measure the back width. Match any curves, cut-outs or wings to the lettered shape diagram.

    4. 04

      Measure the border depth

The border is the vertical strip of fabric around the cushion. Hold this strip flat and measure from its top sewn seam to its bottom sewn seam—not around the piping or across the seat panel.

    5. 05

      Choose foam thickness and wrapping

Use our boxed-cushion example below for a plump seat. Enter the foam thickness you intend to order, then select Full Wrap under Dacron. Do not add an extra allowance to the width or front-to-back measurements.

    6. 06

      Check each cushion separately

Write down every measurement and use one unit throughout. Do not assume neighbouring cushions are identical. For unusual shapes, stretched covers or a different border depth, contact us for sizing advice or book a collection.

    Plus a full Dacron wrap

For a cover with a 4-inch sewn border, order 5-inch foam and choose Full Wrap under Dacron. The 5 inches is the foam itself; the wrap is additional. Dacron rounds the edges, helps fill out creases and protects the foam. Using 4-inch foam would leave this cover flat and wrinkled even with Dacron. This is our boxed seat cushion example, not a sizing rule for every cushion shape.

A few things you might be wondering

    Your cushion questions, answered

Can I keep my existing cushion covers?

Yes. You are ordering replacement foam inserts, not new covers. Check that your covers are in good condition and have an opening large enough to remove the old filling and fit the new insert.

How should I measure my cushions?

Remove the filling and measure the empty cover between its sewn seams: width, front-to-back and the border depth. For a boxed seat cover with a 4-inch border, order 5-inch foam with a full Dacron wrap. Do not add an allowance to width or front-to-back. Use the measuring guide for the lettered dimensions; for other border depths or unusual shapes, ask us or book a cover collection.

Which foam should I choose for a sofa seat?

Premium 39H offers extra-firm support for sofa seats. Luxury Reflex Grey is a resilient alternative for sofa and lounge cushions. Reflex Pink is a softer option intended for back cushions. Compare the seating specifications in the foam guide.

    What are Dacron and stockinette?

Dacron is a soft wadding layer that rounds the cushion, helps fill out creases and protects the foam. It is not a substitute for the right foam thickness: in our 4-inch border example, 4-inch foam looks flat and wrinkled even with Dacron; choose 5-inch foam with Full Wrap instead. The calculator offers top-only, top-and-bottom or full wrapping. Stockinette is a stretchy sleeve that makes fitting the foam into a cover easier. These extras are not available for GraviDry, because wrapping would restrict drainage. Available choices and charges are shown before you add to basket.

How do I fit my new inserts?

Unzip your cover fully and gently compress the insert as you guide it through the opening. Work the corners into position, smooth the fabric, then close the zip without forcing it. Stockinette can help the foam slide into place.

Can I order several cushions in different sizes?

Yes. Set the quantity for identical cushions. For different shapes, sizes or foam grades, add each configuration to your basket separately.

    What about delivery and returns?

The existing foam lead time is 3–5 working days. Delivery charges and any available upgrades are shown at checkout for your address and basket. Foam is made to your measurements; please check the existing terms for made-to-measure returns and manufacturing tolerances before ordering.
